Defamers and stranglers and rapists, oh my!

Happy New Year!

Now that the official presidential love-fest has concluded, it's back to business as usual at the University of Minnesota: a $200,000 pay-out for defamation, a professor jailed for strangling his domestic partner, and of course, the ongoing Carlson School billionaire rape case.  (Let's just put aside the latest conflict-of-interest controversy in the medical school over a dangerous opioid, since that did not involve any criminal or civil charges, and the gun-buying swindler-professor in the "Technological Leadership Institute.") Joan Gabel seems thrilled to be taking over as president, but you have to wonder: Has anyone on the search committee actually mentioned what is waiting for her when she arrives?
