Over at the Pioneer Press, Tom Powers writes that PJ Fleck has hit a roadblock.
I feel bad for the guy. Fleck is dynamic, full of enthusiasm. He has big ideas. All he needs is a live audience to bring out his best. Meanwhile, everybody around here is pretty much dead. The enthusiasm has been beaten out of them. From the Norwood Teague fiasco to Jerry Kill’s illness to the sex scandal, it’s been one body blow after another. And all that comes after decades of mediocrity.
There is no innocence here. There is no gee-whiz. Some boosters have blisters from trying to row the boat against the tide. Some have smashed their oars against the rocks and used them for kindling. And almost everybody is sure that they have heard all of this before.
At this point, I don’t think Gopher Nation needs to be promised pie in the sky. People just need to hear that they will be OK and that the rest of the football world will stop pointing fingers in their direction while whispering naughty things.
