U students rally in support of Mizzou, protest treatment of minorities on U campus

The story is in City Pages:

Javaris Bradford, president of the Black Student Union, says the protests at Mizzou gave U students a reason to express their own frustrations with diversity on campus.

The U has been divesting from ethnic studies courses every year since he’s been on campus, the junior sociology and African-American Studies major says. The Chicano and Latino Studies program has only one full-time faculty member, and teachers keep getting laid off from the African American Studies program. Recently, Hmong professor Juavah Lee of the Multicultural Center for Academic Excellence lost his contract with the U, prompting Asian students to question the Office for Diversity and Equity’s actual commitment to equity.
