I can't begin to imagine the pain of losing a child to suicide. To be honest, it is hard to think of anything worse. The fact that parents can survive this kind of pain and still manage to get out of bed in the morning seems kind of miraculous to me. I don't think I could do it.
What I can imagine is the rage I would feel if a university functionary responded to my loss by asking consulting firms to bid on a review aimed at "instilling confidence" that the university is "beyond reproach." This "Request for Proposals" is an insult to any parent whose son or daughter has died or been injured in a psychiatric study at the university. If the administrators responsible had any conscience whatsoever, they would pull the RFP down immediately and issue a public apology.
Instead, they are extending the deadline for bids again. The new deadline is March 21. (See below)
