This machine kills fascists
I was in Tulsa, Oklahoma a few days ago, to give a talk about the exploitation of mentally ill homeless people in clinical trials. Outside the window of my hotel I could see a large mural. Woody Guthrie was pictured with his guitar, on which he had written: "This machine kills fascists." It's a famous image, and yet I still get a chill every time I see it. A lecture is a poor substitute for a song, especially songs as haunting as the ones that Woody Guthrie wrote, but I like to think that Tulsa was a very good place to give this particular talk.
And if you think you don't know Woody Guthrie's songs: well, you probably do but just didn't realize it. Here's one of the best of them.
