Scholars to Kaler: Inquiry must cover the Markingson case and examine whether similar cases exist

Responding to the resolution passed by the Faculty Senate last week, the group of scholars led by Trudo Lemmens has written to the Senate again.  Their letter states that unless an independent inquiry covers the problems in the Markingson case and examines whether similar cases exist, there will still be concerns about whether research subjects at the University of Minnesota are being properly protected.

The letter goes on to ask that the selection of the inquiry panel members not be controlled by officials "who have been the target of criticism in relation to the controversies being investigated."

Of course, that group of officials would include President Kaler himself.
