Chief Editor of PLoS Medicine joins the call to investigate the Markingson case

Dr. Virginia Barbour, Chief Editor of PLoS Medicine and Chair of the Committee on Publication Ethics, has joined the call for an investigation of psychiatric research misconduct at the University of Minnesota.  Barbour writes: "Research in psychiatry involves some of the most vulnerable members of society. It is important that all research, but especially in this area) is conducted to the highest standards and overseen by institutions in the most rigorous way."

Other journal editors and former editors signing the petition include Richard Horton, editor of The Lancet; Marcia Angell, Arnold Relman and Jerome Kassirer, all former editors of The New England Journal of Medicine; Richard Smith, former editor of the British Medical Journal; Udo Schuklenk, editor of Bioethics; Karen Maschke, editor of IRB; and Greg Kaebnick, editor of The Hastings Center Report.
