University responds to bioethics letter

"An attorney for the University of Minnesota says he will meet with Regents this week to discuss a request for an independent drug trial investigation."  MPR reports.

  1. They need to stop looking at this as a legal issue and stop letting the lawyers run the show. The U has already escaped legal consequences for the Markingson case, and improving protections for research subjects now isn't going to change that. So mission accomplished. Now they can stop taking ridiculous, laywer-mandated positions -- like insisting that they have no obligation to protect these research subjects -- and start working to correct some of these problems. They could do that, if they wanted to.
